Anything that's on my mind? ...
erm ... there's just empty space ... *grins*
nah ... usually it's so croweded that hardly anything can escape to the outer world ...
kk ... I would like to tell you about one of my fav stories from one of my fav writers (It's been on my mind for long and I always wanted to post about it anyway)
So there's this book 'The Star Diaries' by Stanisław Lem, a Polish writer of science fiction, philosophy and satire (1921-2006) ... and it's the first story from the memories of Ijon Tichy ...
I'm not good in telling stories, you better read it yourself ... but I'll try to give a brief summary ...
So in this short story Ijon Tichy is invited to visit the laboratory of professor Corcoran, a rather strange or kinda mad scientist, an arrogant hermit ...
He is lead into an huge old dark factory room, almost empty except for shelves with about a dozen boxes ... and a tiny humming ...
and in those boxes are the most perfected electronic brains ... materialized Leibniz Monads ...
connected to a big slowly rotating drum in the back of thre room ...
this machine is their fate, their world ... it's all they are, they experience, they recognize ...
In the machine are special bands ... containing electric impulses, matching the billions of impressions a being can experience in it's life ...
The whole world in this machine ...
The fate of those boxes is not preordained until the end ... they can influence their fate to a certain degree ... and there's chance ...
They don't know that they are boxes ... they simply live their lives ...
there even is a scientist who explores his world ... but to really understand what his world is, he would have to leave his box and see it from the outside ... which of course is impossible ...
and then there is one box which is a Loonatic ... the one who thinks that he is just a box ... and who will be put into an asylum for such thoughts ... and who thinks that there is a god ... a creator who knows that he shouldn't interfere with his creations ... and that maybe the creator himself is nothing but a box in an even bigger laboratory ....
There's a lot more in that story, but as I said ... read it yourself, best way to catch the spirit ...
Now these boxes always fascinated me ... especially as I always wondered since I was a kid ... whether we are nothing but a dream ... whether what I see and experience is 'real' ...
and Mayala me is a bit of a mix of such a boxed entity combined with her creator ... or just another dream within a dream ... boxed in a box ...
